Professional Learning

By improving our educators learning environments and using the 5 key principles of effective professional learning, educators and students alike can move from the sit and get to the
go and show
model of learning.

Constructivism = Active Learning

People construct their own understanding and knowledge of the world, through experiencing things and reflecting on those experiences.

When encountering something new, it must be reconciled with previous ideas and experience, changing what is believed, or maybe discarding the new information as irrelevant. People become active creators of their own knowledge.

PBL Go And Show!

Teachers- this PL session will change the way you teach! Don't be afraid or overwhelmed! There will be instruction, videos resources, and 1 to 1 help as needed. Take the chance - Change the way you and your students learn!

Why do we need more depth to our PL?

Let me start the story with...

My school district has taken a giant leap towards a change in our PL. Last year we made the move to give choices to our teachers for the PL days. The teachers get to choose what they think best suits their needs and their students' needs. We also added reflection and asked for choices for learning topics. The change in our PL experiences has been awesome.

We also added this year, a badge incentive system to challenge the teachers to do more than “sit and get” - now they get a badge and a chance for a bigger prize when they show evidence of their learning.

BUT!!!

I am beginning to notice that some of the staff have loved the PL choices and went back to the classroom with great new intentions. But, those intentions start to fade when the hype is over and the new PL glow is gone.

I know what needs to be done and that is to give the staff resources. We have several teachers happy to help others and absolutely go above and beyond during a school day. Then 5 o'clock hits or a Saturday, Sunday and there is no help.

Because of my DLL courses, I have taken and the student first books I have enjoyed it is my intention to make a database for each PL ROWVA offers. An afterschool/weekend help depot if you will. I think that if the teachers have the same instructors telling them in a video the way they explained it during the PL session with the ability to rewind, the new knowledge can be better utilized. I am the "Just in Time" teacher in my district right now and I know I could do so more if I organized the lessons in a database.

I started my media plan in Google Slides. I knew that I could bring in pictures as I need them and I types my manuscript in the speaker notes.
I wanted to relay in the video that using PBL in their classroom was very much like the way we like to learn in our PL sessions. Small bites- help when needed- resources for later use. I think that most teachers learn the way students learn.
I then add my Google Slides into WeVideo and used the screencast mode to do the voiceover. The district has a subscription to WeVideo and I teach it to my students. I like to use what I teach so that the students can see that it is used in real life situations. WeVideo also has a great number of backgrounds and a free music bank. I didn't use a green screen in this video but it also a great feature for that.
I uploaded my video to Youtube because I find that works best with WIX to add videos to the webpage.

How?
